Sending Thanksgiving Flowers to Family in Fort Lauderdale When You Can't Be There

Written by DGM Flowers Co.

Short answer: If you can't be at the table in Fort Lauderdale this Thanksgiving, order a centerpiece or fall arrangement from a local florist a few days ahead and have it delivered before the holiday. A local shop hand-delivers it, so it arrives fresh, arranged and ready to set out, with your note attached.

Every November we take calls from people in New York, Chicago, Atlanta and everywhere in between who have family down here: parents who retired to South Florida, a sibling who moved for work, grandparents in a Broward condo. Flights are expensive, schedules don't line up, and sometimes you just can't make it. Flowers are a way to still be part of the day.

We're DGM Flowers Co., an independent Fort Lauderdale florist. Our team designs arrangements in-house and our own drivers deliver around Greater Fort Lauderdale. Here's how to make a long-distance Thanksgiving order go smoothly.

Why order from a local florist instead of a national site

When you order through a big national website, your order is often passed to a shop in the area anyway. Ordering directly from a florist in the city means you're talking to the people who will actually make and deliver it. You can call and ask a question, explain that the recipient is in a gated community, or mention that Mom loves sunflowers. That kind of detail is easy to lose when an order is relayed.

What to send for Thanksgiving

Think about how the flowers will be used on the day.

If they're hosting: a centerpiece is the most useful gift. It goes straight onto the table and saves the host one job. Low designs work best because guests can talk over them. Our studio options include the Grateful Harvest Centerpiece (from $59.95), the Harvest Home Cornucopia Centerpiece (from $69.95) and the Gather 'Round Centerpiece (from $67.95).

If they're a guest somewhere else, or keeping it small: a fall bouquet or basket they can enjoy all week is a better fit than a table piece. Look at the Fall Foliage Bouquet (from $54.95), Autumn's Jewels (from $64.95) or the Harvest Sunflower Basket (from $84.95).

If they'd prefer something that lasts: a plant keeps going long after the leftovers are gone. A white phalaenopsis orchid or something from our plants collection suits a condo or anyone who doesn't want to change vase water.

You can see the full range in our Thanksgiving flowers collection. Current prices are listed on each product page.

When to order

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026. Our advice is to order early and aim for delivery a day or two before, not on the holiday itself. That way the centerpiece is in place before the cooking starts, and your family isn't answering the door with their hands full.

Our regular same-day cutoff is 2 PM, Monday through Friday. Saturday deliveries need to be ordered by Friday.
Thanksgiving delivery order cutoff: 12 PM ET, Wednesday, Nov 25
Thanksgiving Day (Thu, Nov 26): no deliveries
When in doubt, call us at (954) 884-0330, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM.

Get the address details right

Long-distance orders are where address problems happen, because you're not the one at the door. Before you check out, gather:

The full address with unit number. Many of our deliveries go to condos and apartment towers.
Building name and gate code. Gated communities are common across Broward. If you don't know the code, give us a phone number for the recipient.
A working phone number for the recipient. We only use it to coordinate the delivery.
Whether it's a surprise. If so, tell us, and give us a backup contact.
Whether someone will be home. If they're travelling to another relative's house for the meal, it may make more sense to deliver there.
Check our delivery area page to confirm the city is covered.

Write a card that sounds like you

The card is what turns flowers into a message from you. A few lines is plenty:

"Wish I could be at the table this year. Save me a slice of pie. Love, Sam"
"Thankful for you, Mom and Dad. See you at Christmas."
"Happy Thanksgiving from all of us in Denver. We miss you."
Sign with the name they call you, not your full legal name, so there's no guessing.

A few extras

Small add-ons such as chocolates or a plush bear can be added at checkout on many products. If you're sending to a home with cats, let us know: lilies are toxic to cats, and we can suggest a lily-free design, or swap the lilies out of any design on request.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I order Thanksgiving flowers for delivery in Fort Lauderdale?

Order as early as you can, ideally the week before. Popular centerpieces and delivery slots fill up near the holiday. For Thanksgiving delivery, order by 12 PM ET on Wednesday, Nov 25.

Can you deliver on Thanksgiving Day?

We don't deliver on Thanksgiving Day (Thu, Nov 26). We generally suggest a delivery a day or two before so the arrangement is ready for the table.

I live out of state. Can I still order directly from you?

Yes. You can order online at any time or call (954) 884-0330 during business hours. You don't need to be in Florida to send flowers here.

What if my family lives in a gated community or condo?

Include the building name, unit number, gate code and a phone number for the recipient. That gives our driver what they need to get it to the door.

Which areas do you deliver to?

We deliver around Greater Fort Lauderdale. Our delivery area page lists the cities we cover.
