Thanksgiving Centerpieces in Fort Lauderdale: How to Pick the Right One

Written by DGM Flowers Co.

A good Thanksgiving centerpiece pulls the whole table together, and it's one less thing to think about when you're juggling a turkey and a houseful of guests. If you're hosting in Fort Lauderdale this year, here's what our florists suggest: keep it low enough to talk over, size it to your table, and plan around the fact that November here can still be warm.

We're DGM Flowers Co., an independent Fort Lauderdale florist. Our team designs every centerpiece in-house and our drivers hand-deliver around Greater Fort Lauderdale.

Four things to get right

1. Keep it low. Guests should be able to see each other across the table. A long, low design works better for conversation than a tall vase.

2. Size it to the table. A round table for four needs something compact. A long table for twelve can take a fuller centerpiece, or two smaller arrangements spaced down the middle. Most of our designs come in Standard, Deluxe and Premium sizes, so you can pick the look you like and then choose how full it should be.

3. Leave room for the food. If dishes go on the table family-style, keep the centerpiece narrow. If you're serving buffet-style, you can go bigger.

4. Plan for warm weather. Mums and lilies hold up well in the warmth. Sunflowers drink a lot, so check the water or foam every morning. Keep the arrangement away from the oven, direct sun and patio heat, and top up the water the morning of.

Two Thanksgiving centerpieces from our studio

Grateful Harvest Centerpiece, from $59.95. A low design of sunflowers, orange lilies, roses and fall mums with two taper candles. Deluxe is $74.95 and Premium is $89.95. If you light the candles, keep them away from foliage and never leave them burning unattended.
Harvest Home Cornucopia Centerpiece, from $69.95. The classic wicker horn of plenty, filled with orange lilies and rich burgundy, orange and gold mums with yellow accents. Deluxe is $84.95 and Premium is $99.95.

Not hosting? Send one ahead

If you're a guest this year, a centerpiece delivered to your host before the holiday is a thoughtful thank-you, and it saves them from having to find a vase while they're cooking. It also works well for family you can't be with this year. Add your name and a short note so they know who it's from.

Ordering tips

Our last delivery day before the holiday is Wednesday, Nov 25, and Thanksgiving orders need to be in by 12 PM ET that day. We're closed Thursday, Nov 26 through Saturday, Nov 28, so plan for your centerpiece to arrive on or before Wednesday. That works out well, since it gives the flowers a day to settle and look their best by dinner. Add the building name, unit number and gate code for condos and gated communities, and tell us if there's a shaded spot to leave it. Our delivery area page lists the cities we cover.

One small extra

A small box of chocolate truffles ($14.95) can be added at checkout. It pairs nicely with a centerpiece sent to a host.

Cat owners: lilies are toxic to cats, so keep these out of reach.
