Funeral and Sympathy Flowers in Fort Lauderdale: What to Send, Where, and When
Written by DGM Flowers Co.
The short answer depends on how close you were. Immediate family usually orders the casket spray. Extended family, friends, coworkers and groups send a standing spray, wreath or floor basket to the funeral home. And if you'd rather comfort the family directly, a basket or plant at their home is just as appropriate, and often more personal.
Timing is the other half. Order at least a day before the service if you can. For a weekday delivery the same-day cutoff is 2 PM. If the service is on a Saturday, order by Friday. Sunday services are handled by phone.
We're DGM Flowers Co., a Fort Lauderdale florist with our own design studio. Every funeral piece is built here by our designers and driven to the funeral home, church or cemetery by our own team. It isn't relayed through a wire service. This guide answers the questions that come up when you're sending flowers after a loss.

The Service Pieces, Explained
Casket Sprays: One Per Casket, So Agree on Who Orders It
A casket spray rests on the lid. Our product pages say it plainly: these are traditionally sent by the immediate family. Etiquette guides agree that if you aren't immediate family, choose a piece that stands near the casket rather than on it (Legacy.com).
There are two shapes. A half-casket spray or cover is made for open-casket viewings. It sits on the closed lower section of the lid. A full spray runs most of the length of a closed casket. If you're not sure which the service will have, the funeral director knows. Ask them, or give us their number and we'll ask.
Because there's only one lid, the most useful thing a family can do is decide who's ordering. When siblings live in different cities, two of them can easily order one each without knowing, and nobody wants to sort that out the day before a service. One person orders, and the card can list everyone.
Our casket pieces, from lowest price:
• Lavender & White Mixed Half Casket Cover, $189.95. White roses, hybrid lilies, lavender cremones and spider mums with a lavender satin ribbon. Softer than all-white.
• Red Rose Casket Spray, $224.95. Red roses and greenery. A traditional choice from a spouse or partner.
• White Rose Half Casket Cover, $249.95. More than 50 white roses with white monte casino, about 16" high, 42" long and 28" deep.
• Peace and Tranquility Casket Spray, $274.95. An all-white half-casket spray of mixed white flowers.
The full range is on our casket sprays page.
Standing Sprays, Wreaths, Hearts and Crosses
These are the "easel pieces." They arrive on a stand and are set near the casket or the memorial photo. They're the usual choice for a group gift because they're large enough to be seen from the back of a chapel and the card or ribbon can name everyone.
Size matters more than people expect. A small spray can disappear in a big room, and an oversized one can crowd a small one. A few of ours with measurements:
• Pastel Floral Sympathy Standing Spray, $109.95. Pink carnations, white spray mums and seasonal roses with a pink ribbon. A gentle choice for a grandmother or a friend.
• White Standing Spray, from $119.95. Classic white carnations, mums, snapdragons and monte casino, about 32" by 21". The larger size adds white lilies.
• White Sympathy Standing Spray, from $129.95. Fuller, with roses, football mums and stock. The standard size is about 42" by 30" without the stand and the premium is about 56" by 38". It's suited to the funeral home or the graveside.
• White Rose & Lily Sympathy Standing Spray, $199.95. An asymmetrical, more modern design with roses, Oriental lilies and green hydrangea, roughly 48" to 58" tall.
For a shape with meaning, we have the White Mixed Flower Solid Standing Heart ($239.95, about 24" by 24") and the Red & White Standing Cross With Red Rose Break ($199.95). The All White Funeral Wreath (from $174.95) is a standing wreath of roses, mums, lilies and carnations, about 36" to 38" tall without the easel. Browse the rest under standing sprays and easels and wreaths, hearts and crosses.
Floor Baskets: The Middle Option
A floor basket sits on the floor beside the casket. It has the presence of a standing piece without the easel. The Thoughts of Tranquility Floor Basket ($199.95) is ivory roses, white hydrangea, snapdragons and lilies at about 32" by 32".
The Heavenly Light Basket ($99.95) is smaller, about 28" high, with white alstroemeria, snapdragons and stock. It works at the service, and the family can easily take it home afterward. Easels usually stay behind.
Ribbon Wording: Say It in 50 Characters
A printed ribbon tells the room who the flowers honor or who they're from, without anyone reading a small card. Our Memorial Tribute Banner is a $35 add-on for standing sprays, wreaths, crosses and hearts. Each ribbon holds up to 50 characters, including spaces.
Wording that fits:
• "Beloved Mother" or "Loving Father"
• "In Loving Memory"
• "Forever in Our Hearts, Your Grandchildren"
• "With Sympathy, Your Friends at [Company]"
If you need more, the wording can be split across two ribbons. For group orders, put one contact name on the card so the family knows whom to thank.
Flowers for the Service vs. Flowers for the Family's Home
The funeral home gets the large pieces, and the family's home gets the ones meant to be lived with. A 4-foot standing spray in a condo living room is a burden. A vase arrangement at the funeral home can be awkward too, and some funeral homes restrict glass containers (Legacy.com). Send vases to the house.
For the home, we'd steer you toward pieces that ask little of a grieving family:
• Peaceful White Lilies Basket, $89.95. White lilies and carnations in a basket, about 26" wide. It needs no vase and works at the service or the home. If there's a cat in the house, choose something else. Lilies are dangerous to cats, as we explain in our same-day delivery guide.
• Sympathy Designer's Choice, $64.95. Our designer builds a sympathy arrangement from the best stems in the studio that day. It's a good fit when you'd rather tell us about the person than pick from photos.
• Orchid Plant, Double Phalaenopsis (White), from $104.95. Two stems in a ceramic planter. Phalaenopsis orchids bloom for weeks and do well indoors in South Florida.
• Snake Plant (Sansevieria), Large, from $64.95. Very hard to kill. Pick this when the person receiving it isn't a plant person.
Here's something most guides leave out. The first week after a death, the house fills with flowers that all fade together. If you're close to the family, consider sending yours two or three weeks later, after the visitors have gone. Emily Post notes that some close friends send flowers to the home over a few months for exactly this reason (Emily Post Institute). A card that says "Thinking of you this week" lands differently when nobody else is sending one.
Timing Around the Service
What We Need from You
Have these ready when you order online or call. Missing details are what delay funeral deliveries.
1. The funeral home, church or cemetery, and its address.
2. The full name of the person who died. Funeral homes often have more than one service a day.
3. The date and start time of the visitation or service. If there's a visitation the night before, tell us. That's usually when the flowers should arrive.
4. The card message and any ribbon wording.
5. Everyone the gift is from.
6. A phone number for you, in case the schedule changes.
Funeral and event orders are delivered for the scheduled time, not on our general delivery window. If the service moves, call us at (954) 884-0330 as soon as you hear.
How Late You Can Order
Monday to Friday: 2 PM the same day for same-day delivery. For large pieces, a day ahead is safer.
Saturday: Friday. We don't take same-day orders on Saturday, and our phones close at 4 PM Friday.
Sunday: Call us. Sunday funeral deliveries are arranged by phone only.
Our phones are staffed Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM. You can order online at any hour.
Graveside Services in South Florida Heat
Committal services at the cemetery are often outdoors with little shade, and cut flowers fade faster in the heat for most of the year here. We time graveside deliveries close to the service rather than leaving pieces out all morning. If flowers are going from the funeral home to the cemetery afterward, ask the funeral director whether their staff will move them. Many do, but it's worth confirming.
Where We Deliver
We deliver funeral flowers throughout Fort Lauderdale and nearby Wilton Manors, Oakland Park, Plantation, Lauderhill, Tamarac, Sunrise, Pompano Beach and more. Our delivery list includes local funeral homes and cemeteries such as James C. Boyd Funeral Home, Baird-Case Jordan-Fannin, T. M. Ralph Funeral Homes, McWhite's Funeral Home, Lauderdale Memorial Park, Evergreen Cemetery and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery. The full list of cities and ZIP codes is on our delivery area page. The delivery fee depends on distance and shows at checkout before you pay. Our same-day delivery guide has more on cutoffs and delivery windows.
When Flowers Aren't the Right Gift
We sell flowers, but sometimes we'd rather tell you not to send them.
"In lieu of flowers." When an obituary asks for donations instead, follow the family's wish. Emily Post's guidance is that you may still send flowers in addition, but if you're sending only one thing, make it the donation (Emily Post Institute). The request is generally meant for the wider circle. Immediate family often still sends a casket spray.
Jewish funerals and shiva. Flowers aren't part of traditional Jewish mourning, at the funeral or at the shiva home. Families usually prefer food for the mourners or a donation in the person's memory (My Jewish Learning; ReformJudaism.org). Broward County has a large Jewish community, and we'd rather you know this before you order.
Other traditions. Customs vary by faith, culture and family. If you're unsure, the funeral director can tell you what the family has asked for. Ask them before you ask us.
If You're the Family Planning the Service
Ordering every piece one at a time while you plan a funeral is a lot. Our funeral arrangement packages group matching pieces so the casket, the room and the home look like they belong together:
• Tender Embrace Funeral Bundle, from $194.95. Lavender and white. The standard set has a bouquet and a basket, and the larger sizes add a floor basket and a standing spray.
• Sincerest Condolences Bundle, from $204.95. The same idea in classic whites. The deluxe set adds the Thoughts of Tranquility Floor Basket.
• Grandest Glory Collection, $1,259.95. Six all-white pieces, including a casket spray, a standing spray and a wreath, for a full service.
Because everything is designed in one studio, we can match colors across the casket spray and every standing piece. Tell us the person's favorite flower or color, or a team, a hobby, or a faith symbol, and we'll design around it. For something that isn't in our catalog, use our custom arrangement request or call.
Quick Answers
How much do funeral flowers cost in Fort Lauderdale?
On our site, as of October 2026, standing sprays start at about $110, standing wreaths at about $170, and casket sprays run about $190 to $425. Home baskets and plants start around $55 to $65.
Is it too late to send flowers after the funeral?
No. Flowers or a plant sent to the home a few weeks later are often appreciated more, because by then the visits have slowed down.
What should the card say?
Keep it short and personal. "Remembering Maria with love, the Alvarez family." "So sorry. Thinking of you all." Something specific, like a memory or the name they used for the person, means more than a long quote.
Can you deliver to a cemetery for a graveside service?
Yes. Give us the cemetery, the service time and a contact from the funeral home, and we'll time the delivery so the flowers aren't sitting in the sun.
Do you deliver funeral flowers on Sunday?
For funerals and select events, yes, by phone only. Call (954) 884-0330 ahead of time.
