Sympathy Flowers in Fort Lauderdale: Delivering to the Funeral Home, the Church, or the Family

Written by DGM Flowers Co.

When someone you care about loses a person they love, the flowers are the easy part to decide. The harder part is getting them to the right place at the right time. This guide covers where sympathy flowers should go, what fits each place, and the details we need so your flowers arrive before the service starts.

We’re DGM Flowers Co., a Fort Lauderdale florist with our own design studio. Our team designs every sympathy piece and delivers it ourselves around Greater Fort Lauderdale. If you’re still deciding what’s customary for your relationship, start with our guide to funeral flower etiquette.

Sending flowers to the funeral home

The funeral home is where most service flowers go. Standing sprays, wreaths and floor baskets are made to stand on an easel or the floor near the casket or urn, where the family and guests will see them.

A good choice for friends, coworkers and extended family is the White Sympathy Standing Spray, from $129.95. It’s an all-white spray of roses, mums, stock, snapdragons and carnations, and it arrives on an easel. Deluxe is $179.95 and Premium is $239.95.

Sending flowers to a church service

Many Fort Lauderdale families hold the funeral or memorial service at their church instead of, or in addition to, the funeral home. Church deliveries take a little more coordination:

Confirm which location has the service. If there’s a viewing at the funeral home and a service at the church, ask the family or funeral director where flowers should go.
Tell us the service time, not just the date, so we can deliver ahead of it.
Ask about church guidelines. Some churches limit where arrangements can be placed. When in doubt, a basket or standing spray that can sit near the entrance or altar works well.
If the service is at a church, we deliver there. Please don’t send flowers to the cemetery. If the family wants flowers at the graveside, ask the funeral director, who often moves arrangements there after the service.

Sending flowers to the family’s home

Standing sprays and easel pieces belong at the funeral home or service, not the family’s home. For the home, a basket, plant or vase arrangement is the right fit.

Flowers for the service are seen for a few hours. Flowers sent to the home stay with the family for days, and that’s often the gesture they remember. A basket or a plant fits a home well because it doesn’t need a vase.

In some traditions, including many Jewish and Muslim families, flowers aren’t customary at the service. If you’re unsure, ask the family or funeral home first. A plant or a fruit or food basket to the home may be a better choice.

The Peaceful White Lilies Basket ($89.95) works for either place. It’s white lilies and carnations with fresh greens in a large basket, so you can send it to the service or straight to the family’s home. One note: lily pollen can stain, and lilies are toxic to cats, so for a home with cats a plant or a lily-free arrangement is safer.

You’ll find more choices, including plants and orchids, in our sympathy and funeral flowers collection.

What we need from you to deliver on time

Missing details are the main reason funeral deliveries get delayed. Have these ready when you order online or call:

The name of the funeral home or church.
The full name of the person who passed. Funeral homes often have more than one service a day.
The date and start time of the service.
Exactly how you want the card to read, and who it’s from.

Timing

Order at least a day before the service when you can. On weekdays, orders placed before 2 PM can go out the same day. For a Saturday service, order by Friday. Sunday deliveries are for funerals and select events only, arranged by phone at (954) 884-0330.

A personal touch for a standing spray

You can add a Memorial Tribute Banner ($35.00) at checkout. It goes on a standing spray or wreath (not a basket) and lets the family see who sent the flowers at a glance. Keep the card short and personal. The person’s name, or a simple “Thinking of you all,” means more than a long verse.

When you’re ready, browse sympathy flowers on our store, or call us at (954) 884-0330, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM. We’ll help you choose.
